Оруэлл при написании руководствовался многими примерами из реальной жизни. Сам он был "розовым" и говорил про антисоветскую паранойю у себя на родине. Не знаю. Но отечественный процесс над Бухариным очень похож.
Если найду ЖЗЛ, процитирую оттуда.
