wmv корректно играется на *nix на intel процессорах.

The second format is the "MOV" format. This is a proprietary codec used in Quicktime 6 which isn't available native, although HeroineWarrior's Quicktime4Linux (http://heroinewarrior.com/quicktime.php3), LibQuickTime (http://libquicktime.sourceforge.net) or OpenQuickTime (http://openquicktime.sourceforge.net), might work with this as well albeit not fully. Fortunately, there are, "hacked" DLLs (http://www1.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/releases/codecs/) which work together with at least MPLayer. These "hacked" DLL's are binary libraries used on Windows. They have been "hacked" to work with MPlayer on Linux/x86. With additional hacking you might get it working on other platforms, but be aware that requires work and knowledge (*).

Вот именно.

У меня так и не получилось добиться воспроизведения файлов последнего QT. Как правило, проблемы со звуком или с частотой кадров.
